1. The Danger of Offense - Proverbs 18:19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

2. The Duty of Offense - 1Co 8:13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

3. The Detering of Offense - Ps 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

Some Things That Can Offend You!

I. Brethren Can Offend You

A. Discouragement (lack of peace - eyes on problems)

B. "Rabbit-Ear Syndrome" - Ecc 7:21-22 Also take no heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant curse thee: For oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.

C. Lack of Forgiveness - Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Col 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

II. God's Word Can Offend You

A. Mt 13:21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

B. Unwillingness to change our lives to comform to the Scriptures.

III. Preaching Can Offend You

A. Taken as a personal affront or attack

B. God uses preaching to touch on our slack points (Kevin's face!)

2 Tim 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

IV. Rebuke Can Offend You

Titus 2:15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

V. Pastor Can Offend You

Gal 4:15-16 Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me. Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

VI. Persecution Can Offend You

Mt 11:6 - And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
