In a time where God was judging a Nation for Idolatry, for forsaking him, for Murder, where the Judging hand of God was all over the Land of Israel the Prophet Jeremiah writes, "It is because of God's mercy that we are not consumed, because His compassion's fail not!
The word compassion is used a bunch of times (44) in the Bible, sometimes this word is translated: AV - mercy 30, compassion 4, womb 4, bowels 2, pity 2, damsel 1, tender love 1; 44 It means to show mercy to feel sympathy or to be moved to mercy, to exercise pity.
So what the verse is saying then is, "If God's compassion were to run out that I'd be destroyed." (Put this in the Light of the context)
Two Cub Scouts, whose younger brother had fallen into the lake, rushed home to mother with tears in their eyes. One of them sobbed, "We try to give him artificial respiration, but he keeps getting up and walking away." God is like that.. He cares so much!
But we are different. We live in messed up times… I heard about this true story out of Detroit.. The Detroit police officers say they found an abandoned baby boy in a weed-filled alley being warmed and licked by a stray dog that had curled up around him. The baby was in stable condition at a Detroit hospital. Officers Joseph Dabliz and Timothy Bannon found the newborn Thursday afternoon after following a trail of blood from the west side house where he was believed to have been born. The trail led to a weed-filled alley where the blood-spattered German shepherd lay, Officer Dabliz said. Officer Dabliz said the dog, which ran off, "was curled around a baby that was holding onto a little twig. The baby was being licked by the dog." The baby was rushed to Sinai Hospital of Detroit suffering from hypothermia. The 6-pound, 4-ounce infant's body temperature was restored to normal, and he was listed in stable condition Friday night in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit, Sinai spokesman Barbara Lewis said. It's sad times when dogs have more compassion than people..
Someone commenting on this subject said, "Those who deserve love the least need it the most." That would be you and me and so many around us..
Friend we live in cold times.. A media crew composed of television and newspaper reporters, in Alabama was summoned by a despondent, drunken, unemployed man who indicated that he was going to set himself ablaze. A photographer and sound technician responded to the call, and had to select between two roles once the fire began. They could fulfill a media role by recording the incident as impassive observers, or they could fulfill a humanitarian role by smothering the flames. For some thirty-seven seconds the team chose the former. They taped this man burning for the six o'clock news and did nothing to save him. By the time one of the individuals changed his role and began battling at the flames it was nearly too late. Fortunately, a volunteer fireman was able to extinguish the flames and save the man.
Man may dismiss compassion from his heart, but God will never. -- William Cowper (1731–1800)
I am sorry for the man who can't feel the whip when it is laid on the other man's back. -- Abraham Lincoln
